The blimp project

Blimp Foto
Based on the 'push' given by the '3d Mission' exhibition in the state government building of Northrhine-Westfalia in Duesseldorf, November 2002, our research group has focused on a new area of robotics: autonomously flying robots. We started in 2002 with a remotely controlled blimp (airship) which travels in the airspace of our robotics lab.

Flight robotics is an upcoming area of robotics research in the sensor information from above a landscape and to provide it to mobile robot systems operating on the ground. Problems to be solved within our Blimp research project are in the eld of robot control, sensorics, communication and multi-agent cooperation. For these robotic surface-air tandems, we foresee applications in various scenarios such as exploration of hazardous environments, object protection and security, traffic control etc.
